Show a right triangle with squares drawn on each side (3-4-5 triangle). The square on side 3 has area 9. The square on side 4 has area 16. The square on side 5 has area 25. 9+16=25! Click each square to see its area. Do this for a 5-12-13 triangle too. The student discovers: the two smaller squares
