6 steps: (1) An INFERENCE is a conclusion you draw from clues + what you already know. (2) Formula: Text Clues + Prior Knowledge = Inference. (3) The author doesn't SAY it directly - you figure it out like a detective! (4) Example: 'The girl blew out the candles on the cake while everyone sang.' INF
